At the Healthy Environments and Stigmatized Youth (HealthEASY) lab, we conduct both qualitative and quantitative research on a wide variety of social factors and how they are associated with the well-being of adolescents and young adults, with particular attention to stigmatized groups such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) youth, youth of color, those with disabilities, and those who are overweight.
Our projects have sought to shed light on the needs of LGB students within the school environment, the experiences of trans and gender divergent youth in healthcare environments, and ways to address bias-based bullying in Minnesotan primary and secondary school environments. As we move forward, we aim to incorporate intersectionality to further investigate how to support young people who may face multiple forms of oppression in their everyday lives.
